When you turn the ignition key or press the start button, the battery sends power to the starter. Inside, an electromagnet pushes a small gear called the pinion forward so it locks into the larger gear on the engine’s flywheel. At the same time, the motor spins the pinion, which rotates the flywheel and starts turning the crankshaft. This cranking motion allows
